High on the Downs, Burpham is the ideal centre from which to explore Sussex.
Sunny beaches, ancient castles and cathedrals, thatched villages, great historic houses such as Parham and Petworth, and walks through neolithic downland all lie within a few minutes of the village. Burpham itself is on the site of an Anglo-Saxon fort, still clearly visible.
Sussex is home to great areas of unspoilt countryside estates with few public roads, and so provides a great wildlife haven. The birdwatching reserves of Arundel's Wildfowl and Wetlands trust, Pulborough Brooks and Pagham all show the great diversity of habitats.
Arundel, Chichester Lewes and Brighton all provide great retail therapy, from quirky shopping and antiques centres to trend-setting Brighton boutiques. The great festivals at Goodwood, Arundel, Brighton and Chichester draw thousands of visitors.
