We have a 'Cyclists and Walker's welcome accreditation from Visit Britain, the tourist Authority. We offer secure storage for bikes, and packed lunches (bookable) for walkers and cyclists. We always have a stock of walking routes and copies of Ordnance survey maps, and we'll dry out wet clothing. Boots can be left at the door.
We are ideally placed for walking and cycling, being close to the South Downs Way and the Monarch's Way. You can park at the hotel and walk or cycle directly onto the South Downs, following the old Leper's Way up onto the Downs with its iron age earthworks, and with magnificent views to Arundel castle, the Arun Valley, the sea and Isle of Wight. or you can meander along the river for an hour into Arundel.
Or follow the River Arun from Burpham village to the old churches at North and South Stoke, mentioned in the Domesday book, and then north to Amberley or south to Arundel via the Black Rabbit. We can advise you on several circular walks or rides of varying difficulty and duration.
We have a great deal of wildlife here, from glow-worms to hares, pheasants and partridges as well as the rare chalkland butterflies and orchids. Old traditional flowers such as cornflowers, bluebells and poppies abound in the fields.
We now offer two new 'GIANT' mens and ladies front suspension mountain bikes for hire by the half day or day. We supply puncture kits, pumps and locks, but you'll have to bring your own helmets. The local trails are ideal for biking.
